When the girls were growing up, for Christmas one year they received a Barbie Dream house, made of high grade, high dollar, Barbie plastic. Real pretty to the eye but not very sturdy to the touch. Too be honest I don’t know a lot about building construction, but I do know any building needs a solid foundation to remain standing. The foundation is the base upon which everything is built.
It’s hard for me to believe, but our house is nineteen years old this year, and one of the things we’re discovering is, it needs some repairs, it needs updating. It’s a lot like our lives, maybe it’s time for some remodeling, we’ve all fallen short and need some fixing up.
There is a story that has been around for a long while. I don't know where it's from. A long time ago, there was a carpenter, a master carpenter. He went into the house-building business, and he built great houses.
I want to talk about a single verse in the Christmas story, about really just one single, very powerful little word in that verse. It was actually a promise made by the prophet Isaiah a long time earlier when he said, "The young woman will be with child..." That's Jesus. "...and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, "which means God with us.
